"Pull up, pull in & breathe"

January 2015

When I first turned up on PATS doorstep I was not in a very enthusiastic and 'raring to go' place. More like dosed up to the eyeballs on painkillers, very scared to move and not really buying into the 'Pilates thing'. PATS Pilates was very much a last resort after failed attempts at other treatments including physiotherapy, acupuncture and even a Tens machine! So I thought 'why not, it couldn't get any worse!' (Not really an inspiring first client!)

I cannot thank Pat (and Emma) enough for what they did- their professionalism, patience and skill in getting me to move again. I know I was not an easy client. Pat and Emma could adapt any exercise on the spot and were not constrained by a 'one size fits all' approach. I must confess there were times when I thought Pat was 'bonkers' because she was challenging me and my fears. However, I quickly came to realise the genius in Pat's thinking and the exercises she got me doing. Also, that resistance was futile!! I saw changes in my body and soon I was able to walk my lively dog, drive again and return to work. These were all massive milestones for me.I joined evening classes which I love and still do (thank you Ruel, Kerry and Anna your classes are fab!) PATS Pilates is a very special place because of the dedication, quality and skill of all of its teachers. Each teacher taking the Pilates principles and making it their own.

Again, there is no 'one size fits all' approach at PATS Pilates. The other amazing thing is the lovely people you meet in the classes, all really supportive and good fun. I must mention the ladies in my Saturday class, we work hard but we have a ball (even if you end up doing daft things like walking 10 miles at midnight in the pouring rain. It was worth it though to raise £1500 for Willen Hospice, although not sure I will be volunteering next year....) I’ve found since starting Pilates I’m fitter, stronger and faster than I was before I got injured.

I'm now painkiller free and last year started running again, a massive thing for me because I thought I would never be able to run again. Initially Pilates was a last resort and now I can't imagine not having my Pilates practice to support me in my everyday life. I can't recommend Pilates enough and know I was very lucky to find somewhere like PATS Pilates when I did. A massive thank you to PATS Pilates!
